06 Jul Handmade parts
Check out these shiny new parts! All handmade by our students. The aluminium alloy that was used is not your ordinary aluminium. The alloy is called 7075-T6 and it is strong, very strong. Due to its high strength, low density, thermal properties, and its ability to be highly polished the alloy is often used in transport applications, including marine, automotive and aviation. It’s fatigue strength is comparable to many of the hardest steels.
The first 7075 aluminium alloy was developed in secret by a Japanese company, Sumitomo Metal, in 1943. 7075 was eventually used for airframe production in the Imperial Japanese Navy.
